A couple of weeks ago I created a review about the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz Pencil and was very positive. However, I did compare it a little bit to both the ABH predecessors that have made their way into my makeup bag. Particularly the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz Definer.
Ease of use
What I can say is that both the pencil and the definer are super easy to use. They’re both pencils (we’ve been able to use a pencil since childhood!) and they have an easy spoolie brush to help as well. I have to say in general, pencils of any kind are probably the easiest brow products to use except maybe brow gels with a wand. But pencils allow you to create more depth and colour if needed.
They are both a lot easier than the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow Pomade – and I switched over mainly because of this. Whilst I love ABH’s auburn shade for brows because so many other companies don’t have it – I love even more that I have it in a pencil form.
Time to Use
Whilst both pencils are quick and easy to use, I think the brow definer wins for timeliness. The brow definer having a larger surface area means it’s quicker at filling in the brow, whereas with Brow Wiz you do have to use singular strokes. But the brow definer also has a sharp edge to the diamond shape, which means it’s also good at creating defining lines too.
With a quicker application time, the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer has a lot less precision. With the diamond head, there’s three sides (tip, wide side and flat on head) to use, and if you’re rushing it’s not the sharpest of lines.
Colour and Formula
Unsurprisingly both pencils in shade Auburn look exactly the same. Since they’re both Anastasia Beverly Hills brow pencils, the colours are an exact match and so can be used interchangeably. The formula also feels the same for both products, where really the only difference is the shape of the pencil end.
Size of Product
The Brow Wiz pencil is much thinner in general, to make up for the small pointed nature of the pencil. The Brow Definer is thicker to allow it to taper to the diamond shaped head. Both products also included a spoolie at the opposite end of the product.
I found both of them to still be sturdy products despite Brow Wiz being thinner, and didn’t worry when throwing them into a travel makeup bag.
Time to Remove
Because they both have the same formula, both the ABH Brow Wiz and Brow Definer stay on all day. I’ve never had to re-apply brow products whilst using any of ABH’s, but then I never had to when using Benefit’s either.
Pricing
The price difference between the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer (£24) and Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz (£23) aren’t huge. With only £1 between then, there’s the assumption that there’s not much difference in the products themselves.
However, the Brow Definer is 0.2g whereas the Brow Wiz is 0.08g so less than half of the Definer. Doubling the amount of product for £1 feels like an absolute bargain to me! Of course the different ways of using the products does mean this weight isn’t used evenly when applying – but I personally found the Brow Wiz to last months.
The Verdict
I personally prefer using Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer. For me, I just like that it’s easy to use and quick to apply the eyebrow style I prefer. This added with the fact that it potentially last’s longer than it’s counterpart also makes it better value (especially for £24!).
