As the hype built and built for the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow Palette, I just knew I had to have it. I’ve previously been a heavy neutrals or blues kinda gal, so bright pinks and reds were something different and what I wanted to try. I grabbed this as soon as it was out and I’ve not looked back since.

Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow Palette
Alternatives:
- Use the included double-ended brush and a light hand when picking up product—because the formula is full pigment, a little bit goes a long way.
- The included dual-ended eye makeup brush is compact and ideal for on-the-go application. To apply eyeshadow, use the flat end of the dual-sided brush to deposit color, highlight or pack eyeshadow onto the lid. Use the fluffy end of the double-sided brush to diffuse and blend out shadow.
- For a more intense color payoff, pair metallic shades with a setting spray.
- Use the matte and metallic shadows as highlight shades. Use the warm matte neutral eyeshadows for contouring and defining, and the warm and cool metallic eyeshadows as accent shades.
- To create a romantic eyeshadow look, apply Buon Fresco all over the lid and smudge Love Letter onto the upper and lower lash lines.
- To create an effortless neutral eyeshadow look, blend Raw Sienna into the crease with Primavera washed on the lids.
First Thoughts
So one thing I love about this palette is that yes, there’s bright pink, red and oranges… however there’s also neutrals too. So I’ve been using the neutrals for nearly all my day time looks – with sometimes a pop of the brighter colours just to stand out. As you can see on some of the photos below, I’ve been using Buon Fresco a LOT because it’s super simple and slightly purple but also a bit different to your usual browns and nude colours.
Every single colour in this eyeshadow palette is super pigmented. Even the lightest shade, Tempura, is so noticeable with the smallest amount used. (Although not always as noticable for the camera!). But this means it’s going to take a lot of time to use up these colours, and it allows you to build up the brighter ones and blend them easily.
Speaking of blending, some of these shades are creamy in texture which really helps applying them. Even if I’m in a rush, I’m not going to need to worry about blending or applying as the product really works together to make a smooth blended look.
After Use
Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow Palette is full of all-day lasting eyeshadows. My eyeshadow still retains both the shape (it’s not rubbed off in the day) but also the brightness of each shade holds up. This is something I love because honestly I’m lazy and I don’t want to have to touch up my eyeshadow before going out in the evening if it still looks bomb from the morning.
I’m quite excited for returning to Uni as I can see myself using Love Letter and Venetian Red for a lot of different night out looks (which you can keep up with on my Instagram) – and because like I said before only the smallest amount is needed it should last me for quite a while.
As someone who mainly sticks to the Naked2 Basics palette and very neutral colours on an everyday basis the ABH Modern Renaissance was not only an impulse buy but probably not the best decision for my bank balance. But I was pleasantly surprised with the fact that the majority of the palette is neutral enough to wear everyday and that the bright pink, red and orange just catch your eye a lot at first glance.
Swatches
There’s 14 shades in the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow Palette which are all very warm colours and are extremely pigmented. And I mean extremely. I actually went to try a subtle look with the Raw Sienna shade and found that I had way too much on my brush -which meant I had to rethink my look for the day. You really only need the smallest amount on the brush and the shades blend into each other so well.
Below are some swatches of each colour, I really hope you can see the names clearly – if not just mention it in the comments and I’ll edit up some new photos.
- Tempera (Velvety beige with an ultra-matte finish)
- Golden Ochre (Earthy yellow with an ultra-matte finish)
- Vermeer (Iridescent shell with a metallic finish)
- Buon Fresco (Antique lavender with an ultra-matte finish)
- Antique Bronze (Metallic sable with a satin finish)
- Love Letter (Raspberry with an ultra-matte finish)
- Cyprus Umber (Dark coffee with an ultra-matte finish)
- Realgar (Brick with an ultra-matte finish)
- Warm Taupe (Earthy grey with an ultra-matte finish)
- Venetian Red (Crimson with an ultra-matte finish)
- Red Ochre (Sienna with an ultra-matte finish)
- Primavera (Shimmery gold dust with a metallic finish)
- Burnt Orange (Deep orange with an ultra-matte finish)
- Raw Sienna (Neutral amber with an ultra-matte finish)
Tempera is a great base colour for my eyes as you can see the swatch is barely visible on my arm – I think this is great as I said before I’m a very neutral look person.

Would I Re-Purchase Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow Palette?
I definitely think that if I’m still using the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow Palette enough to hit the pan… I will need to buy it again. Alternatively I may try to find my favourite shades in singles.
