Benefit Hello Happy Velvet Powder Foundation Review | Mattify and Perfect Your Face For Everyday Use

For years I was using Benefit’s Hello Flawless powder foundation – I loved the formula and it lasted all day for me. So I was so upset when I found out it had been discontinued! But they then brought out Benefit Hello Happy Velvet Powder Foundation which to me looks exactly like Hello Flawless but with a re-brand.

How To Use

Use a powder brush or sponge to apply all over face.

First Thoughts

My first thought when opening it up is how similar it looks to Hello Flawless. It comes in the same box, with the same packaging and has the same mirror and secret compartment underneath the powder. It even comes with the same brush and sponge. Because of the similarities, I went into using Hello Happy as if it was just a rebranded product.

After Use

Hello Happy has extremely good pigmentation and coverage. I use the lightest shade, and sometimes in winter when I’m extra pale™ it can have a slight orange tint so you really need to get the right shade. This is not a powder that blends into your skin tone and if you’ve not use Benefit foundation before, I fully recommend you go into a store to find your shade.

When using Hello Happy Velvet Powder Foundation my skin looks clear. Whilst larger spots (and scabs if I’ve picked them…) don’t fully disappear, I find that it does make them look less angry and less visible. I find that even if I’m doing just a powder and mascara day, I feel very comfortable in my skin when using it.

What I loved most about this is that it usually lasts all day. I will apply it in the morning and when I get home in the evening it’s still there and my skin looks visibly better for it. The only time it doesn’t last as well is when it’s very hot and I’ve been sweating. My skin is defintely not matte anymore, however, the product is still on my face and it looks better than if I’d gone without.

Another good thing is that it’s not cakey at all. Some powders just sit weirdly on your skin, and built up around your nose and eyes for example. This doesn’t do that – It applies so well and stays in place easily. I often use it over a liquid foundation too, and I still have a very natural look despite two lots of foundation.

I have used Benefit’s Hellow Happy with Benefit liquid foundation, Clinique foundation and on it’s own. It works well with other products to create a lovely matte finish, but doesn’t ruin the look by reacting with the liquid foundation. For me personally, I love using it over a liquid foundation as it makes my skin look and feel smooth, soft, and clear! Which overall helps my confidence as my skin is sometime quite bad.

On top of this, using this powder on it’s own is great. As a foundation it covers a lot even when not using liquid foundation or concealer. So most days where my skin is actually looking okay-ish and I don’t need a full coverage, I just use this and some mascara and I’m out the door.

Would I Re-Purchase Benefit Hello Happy Velvet Powder Foundation?

Yes I would defintely re-buy Benefit Hello Happy Velvet Powder Foundation! Similar to their previous product of Hello Flawless, I think this will be a repeat purchase for my everyday routine.
