“Quickly minimize the appearance of pores & fine lines for smoother-than-smooth skin! Apply this silky, lightweight balm alone, under or over makeup. The translucent formula contains a vitamin E derivative known to protect skin from free radicals.”
I bought Benefit’s POREfessional primer while I was on holiday in New York about a year and a half ago and the Benefit counter in Macy’s did my makeup for me. I really liked how my makeup looked over the top this; it was so cold that my skin was extremely dry so this primer was really good at smoothing the dry patches out.
You can wear it under or over makeup and also just on its own if you prefer a lighter coverage. I’ve used a few primers before but this is the first one where its skin coloured – this makes it easier to use on top of foundation as it blends in with my skin.
As a primer I cant really see much difference between Benefits, seventeen and an Avon one which I’ve had in the way it looks with foundation on – although POREfessional is much thinner and spreads across my skin much easier which makes a little go a long way.
Below you can see a close up and an extra close up of a before and after application on my cheek – apologies for how bad my skin is at the moment, it’s decided to have a bad week. As you can see, my skin looks more matte, the colour of the primer has slightly tinted my skin as well and (I think anyway) my pores do look a bit better and less noticable.
I cant say that POREfessional was a miracle product and it doesn’t have any ingredients which would help my pores shrink over time like some products claim but on a day-to-day basis it works well as a base under my foundation.

nice review!
[…] was great as I could try out all these products which help make my skin matte. After loving the Porefessional Primer, and as you know I’ve bought a full sized version since! I also really liked Agent Zero Shine […]
Nice post. I am impressed!
Benefit porefessional looks like a great primer! Wondering if it would work well on my skin though as it can be sensitive.
I’ve always loved Benefits products so I’ve been curious about this primer for a while!
Thank you for this indepth post. It’s good to know that Porefessional can be used as a primer.
Does the Porfessional actually minimise pores? Or just the look of pores?
I’ve read a few different review for Benefit POREfessional and it’s benefits of making your skin look tighter and smoother – but want to ask how much benefit does this give your skin? Does your skin need to be in good health before using? I have very oily skin and so worry it will just wipe away this product.
Pretty great post. I simply stumbled upon your blog and wished to say that I’ve really loved your posts.
Thanks for sharing such a pleasant review. Never used a primer myself and most likely won’t anytime soon. But it was good to know about it.
A lovely review. Really appeciate the time spent researching ingredients.
This is a fab post! But I have a question about primers. Is it okay to wear primer everyday or can in clog pores? And if it does clog pores, why do we need to wear it?
Does Porefessional help permanently tighten pores?
You’re such a good reviewer! It’s great to see that you’ve covered how to use it – I always struggle with new products.
I love your review – I’ve been thinking about what the benefits of using a primer are so this came at agood time! Would you recommend Porefessional? or another type?
