With so many skin care products out there, how do you know which one’s to pick up? I’m always looking for specific ingredients which I know are proven to be beneficial but also work well for my skin. One of those ingredients is juniper oil. As I’m eczema and acne prone I tend to swerve towards ingredients that can help both of those problems, but without being too harsh on my sensitive skin. Juniper oil has these benefits and more and really helps my skin feel and look the best it can.
Helps skin irritation and sores
Using a body wash with juniper oil can help reduce skin irritation and assist with the healing of open sores. Those with eczema or psoriasis can benefit from juniper oil as part of an everyday remedy to their symptoms. It can also reduce skin reactions and sun burn as it is gentle yet moisturising. Whenever my skins in a bad eczema flair up I tend to switch up my routine to use products that are better suited to treating it, although it can also be used everyday and regularly without any issues.
Antibacterial and antiseptic properties
Because of antibacterial and antiseptic properties juniper oil can assist with cleaning and unclogging pores, which helps improve acne and blackheads. They are also important for the previous point as it’s one of the many reasons it can help reduce irritation.
Using antibacterial face washes really helps your skin to be thoroughly cleaned even when you’re an everyday foundation wearer. Plus if you’re anything like me and you subconsciously pick at your face, anything antiseptic is great to keep your face from looking like a red puffy mess.
Balances oily skin and tightens pores
Although I have eczema, my skin type is oily and I often struggle with it. Juniper oil also helps to balance the pH of your skin which helps to keep your skin’s oiliness in check. Pores being tightened further reduces this, and also reduces the sight of blackheads.
Can also help reduce cellulite
Regular use of body oils and lotions that include Juniper Oils can help reduce the look of cellulite. Of course this should also be alongside exercise and it’s not a miracle ingredient. But it can help tighten the skin and plump it up to make your skin look and feel smoother.
Improves scalp health
You can also get juniper oil in shampoos and conditioners as it can help your scalp health. It reduces dandruff and hair loss by keeping your scalp moisturised. It also helps rejuvenate the roots to give your hair a healthier look.
Stress Reliever
The scent of juniper oil can often have soothing and stress releasing properties as well. So it can also help the cause of eczema if you’re similar to me and get it when stressed. In general though it’s nice to have something to pamper yourself with, whether it’s a body wash, cleanser or oil.

I only have one or two products with juniper oil in I think. I’ve never really testes them for long enough to notice any huge benefit as I’m not too keen on the smell. It’s such a battle finding stuff that works for oil control and irritation though so it’s great that you’ve found something! x
