Blogging 101: Guide to Buffer

Buffer is another site that helps you post to social media. It has Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn capabilities as well as other social networks when on it’s paid plans.

Scheduling

If you haven’t guessed yet, I love being able to schedule social posts. I currently work full time 9-5 and I can’t be on my phone all day tweeting. In comes buffer where you can schedule up to 10 posts on the free plan. This means every evening you can schedule for the next day’s tweets.

Optimal timing is a great feature that buffer has that will auto-schedule your tweets to when your audience is most likely online and engaging. You can set the times this can sit between (E.g. 8am-10pm) to meet your audience’s awake times.

You can also use the buffer browser extension to schedule posts, this may also include a mix of your own content and others. You can also retweet other people’s tweets using buffer.

Analytics

Buffer has it’s own analytics and can show you which of your tweets have performed well (or not so well!). If a post has done really well you can also re-buffer the post and tweet it out again.

WordPress Linking

You can download the Buffer for WordPress plug in which automatically tweets out your old blog posts. Having this become more automated allows you to free up your time to create content instead of promoting it.

Overview

Since Buffer changed to only allowing 10 status updates on the free plan, the tool has become extremely limiting unless you can pay monthly. There’s plenty of other tools that have the same functionality like Hootsuite and the Revive Old Post plug in for WordPress.

  1. I only recently started using Buffer, but it works great for me. I haven’t tried Hootsuite yet, so I’ll check it out!

I usually use Tweetdeck, but may look into Buffer as another alternative. Thank you for this post, it was really simple to read.
