Blogging 101: Tidy Up

Following in Chloe’s footsteps I’m aiming to start tidying up my blog in the next few weeks! With tidying up comes a lot of stress and a wondering of what you actually need to do – so I’m here to help with a checklist of what you can do.

Check Old Links

One of the biggest issues for websites can be old and broken links. That link to another blog may be a blog that’s no longer active, or that cute top may not be on New Look’s website anymore! Either way these links are affecting your sites SEO ranking and also affects readers who may be reading and clicking on the links. Broken Link Checker will become your new best friend to check on these for you, so you know what you need to fix fast!

Format Old Posts

In January I started to format my blog different. Both beauty reviews and book reviews were changed up to be more informative and so a lot of my old reviews are in the old format. I’ve made a slow start previously, but I really do need to start formatting all my old posts better.

Update Pages

If you’ve ever gone into my books page in the menu bar you’ll know that I’m not the best at updating pages myself! But this month I’ve got some time to sit down and focus on making all my pages up to date, including my about me and contact info.

Create Graphics/Take Photos

If you hadn’t noticed from the previous task, I’m super lazy! So sometimes I write a whole post and then I don’t have a photo or graphic for it. Instead of being a normal person I tell myself I’ll take the photo this week and update the post, and then I NEVER DO. So I’m also going to make a massive list of what posts need a photo and take them all in the coming weeks.

SEO Check

If you have WordPress and the Yoast plugin, this is a super nice and easy task. Just go down your published posts and update them when the Yoast plugin doesn’t show green for SEO keyword. If you’re struggling with this, make sure you check out the Yoast site for tips and keep calm if you’re not quite reaching green but you’re getting orange! It doesn’t always need to be perfect.

Build Internal Links

Whilst formatting old posts and running an SEO check, think about how you could link to a newer post to boost your internal linking. If you wrote about a product last year that you then put in a different post, could you link this? Yes! Can you link through to a newer product that you now prefer? Yes! Internal linking is great for SEO purposes and will make your site more connected when search engines are crawling.

  1. Wooo can’t wait for it to be August, my blog and goodreads are gonna be in for a huge shock when I get round to tidying them. I think the best part for me is knowing I’ve got back up haha, that there’s some other bloggers who are gonna be joining me. Making it a little bit more fun haha.
