The BodyShop Honey & Oat 3 In 1 Mask Review | Soothe and Exfoliate Skin To Improve Texture and Tone

The Honey & Oat mask is my ‘everywhere else’ kind of mask. It works on the parts of my face that aren’t super oily but also aren’t eczema prone as it both moisturises and exfoliates. I usually use this alongside other face masks. Plus, when you go to rinse your face you can use the oat parts to exfoliate the rest of your face as you wash the other masks off.

Main Ingredients and Their Benefits

Water acts as a solvent and enables multiple other chemicals to work much better than if they were without water. As water is water, it is also suitable for all skin types and won’t be over-drying or make skin oilier.

Oat Bran, also called Avena Sativa on ingredients lists is great for it’s antioxidant and skin soothing properties.

C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate is an emollient and thickening agent. It provides a light confitioning to the skin to create a silky feel.

Kaolin helps cleanse and exfoliate debris and skin cells. It absorbs moisture into itself which helps support products that are self preserving and helps keeps products fresh.

Honey contains nutrients and is antiseptic, antibacterial, antioxidant and antifungal which benefits both the skin and hair. As a natural humectant it also helps attract and retain moisture.

Glyceryl Stearate is a naturally derived fatty acid, most often used as an emulsifier. It gives the skin a soft and smooth appearance as it acts as a lubricant as well as creating a barrier reducing water loss.

Butylene Glycol is a solvent, viscosity-decreasing agent and a conditioner. This helps reduce the product from drying out and works well in anti-aging products as it helps retain moisture.

PEG-100 Stearate is used as an emollient, emulsifier and moisturiser although PEG stearates are usually known to clean the skin.

Myristyl Myristate is a skin conditioning agent, emulsifier and opacifier in skin care products. It ensures a formula has a pleasant and soft feel to it.

Behenyl Alcohol is a fatty alcohol that acts as an emulsifier and thickener. It gives the skin a smooth feel and helps prevent moisture loss.

Glycerin promotes skin cell maturation which can help fight effects of skin problems such as psoriasis whilst improving the appearance of skin in general. It is a humecant and helps the skin maintain it’s moisture which in turn makes the skin look healthier.

First Thoughts

As this mask contains both honey and oats I was fully expecting it to be hydrating and soothing for my skin. I also thought it would work well to clean my face fully as it contains Kaolin, but also works as a scrub as well.

I was excited to use a mask that would work well for blackhead prone areas without it being a painful peel off mask.

During Use

When first applying it did take longer than a usual clay mask to dry. But once dry it’s fully dry and not tacky at all like the Aloe mask.

The formula itself is extremely thick, although easily spreadable across my skin. There were some areas where the build up felt like too much and this slowed the drying time. But if you work on evening out the application to your skin it is a lot better.

After Use

I found that after rinsing it can be quite messy with the oat bits. If you’re like me and you usually just wash off your face mask in the shower then be aware that the oat parts do like to cling to the skin. I also found it hard even when using a flannel as the bits get caught in the fabric.

The Honey & Oat mask is perfect for when I have a little bit of dry skin which needs a bit of moisture without making it overly oily. The scrub aspect works well as it’s not too abrasive and the oats help soothe the skin whilst cleaning your skin.

Would I Purchase Again?

Unfortunately this seems to be out of stock on the website so I may not be able to purchase again. But I a hoping to find a similar one – and I know Lush have a mask that contains oats as well that could work as an exfoliator!
