I was rummaging through my makeup the other week and I came across the Chella Ivory Lace Highlighter Pencil. I’m pretty sure I got it in a beauty box a while back, and I’ve just never found much use for it. But recently I’ve been trying to use eyeshadow more and more – so I thought I’d test it out.
Where to Buy
How To Use
After using both your brow products and your eyeshadow, carefully use the highlighter pencil to neaten edges and highlight the brow bone.
First Thoughts
Quite honestly, my first thoughts were why would I even use this. The highlighter is matte and looks a lot more like a concealer than any highlighter I’ve used. Even in the promotional photos, it looks like they’ve forgotten to blend out the concealer. But, I will give it a try.
After Use
I’m unsure if I needed a lighter shade (which there isn’t one!) but when using this to highlighter my brow bone, it just doesn’t work. The product is on my skin, but completely invisible as it matches my skintone so well. Plus, I actually tried blending it out more than the promo photos so it lookede okay.
The good thing is that it does help when trying to define my eyeshadow lines a bit more. I’m super lazy so never use the tape trick for shadows, but sometimes the eyshadow falls too low on the outer corners – using this as a concealer really helped sharpen that up.
Speaking of concealing, I also tried using it on some of my spots and it worked wonders to cover them up. Using this alongside foundation and powder really helped make my skin look clear and matte.
Using it as a concealer and corrector for mistakes is really easy to do – as the pencil shape gives you more control. Most of my current concealors are sticks, except one liquid. So overall I feel like this will have a place in my makeup bag, but not for it’s intended purpose.
On Birchbox’s site, it does claim that this pencil illuminates and “conceals, brightens, contours, shapes, lines, and defines—working 10 different ways”. I honestly can’t say it does work 10 different ways – for pale skin anyway, it works about one way which is concealing. It may define a lot more if you use darker and harsher products on your brows, but for me it didn’t do much either! Unfortunately overall it was a bit of a disapointing product.
Would I Re-Purchase the Chella Ivory Lace Highlighter Pencil?
I highly doubt I’ll be buying this myself. For the price point, it’s just not good value for money. Especially since I wouldn’t even use it as a highlighter. I would say it would work better for someone more tan though.
