I was so excited when I received Cliniques Lash Power Mascara in my advent calendar. As you can probably tell, I love their skincare range and their foundation so trying out some more make-up was obviously the next step. Plus, as this is a handy sample size, it was perfect for my travel bag, or just to drop into my handbag for touch ups.
First Thoughts
After looking at the brush I was hesitant at first as the product was all over it and in between the bristles. It did look like I would be applying a very thick layer of mascara when using it which I personally don’t like. I’m more off a layers kind of person, I like being able to use a small amount and then add more if needed.
During Use
I’m not sure if it’s because this is a sample, but I found this mascara to be extremely clumpy and hated the wand. I mentioned before that I was worried about it, and even after blotting of excess product it was too much mascara at once.
I’m not really seeing much difference apart from in colour when applying. My lashes are usually a blonde-ginger colour and so obviously in black they’re more easily seen, but this formula doesn’t lend any length or volume to my lashes.
After Use
My eyelashes didn’t look natural and ‘fluffy’ like they do with my normal mascara. It reminded me a lot of spider leg lashes that you used to get when you were 13.
It also flakes off if you’re wearing it for a while. It does seem to be water proof and I’ve had no issues with smudging, but if I rub my eyes near the end of the day it does just fall away from the lashes.
Would I Purchase Again?
No I don’t think so. I’m happier buying Smashbox’s mascara as it makes my eyelashes look natural but also gives them a bit more volume.
