Daily Make Up Routine | 2016 Summer Routine

As with all daily make up routines, there’s often a story behind why it came down to those specific products. For me, it came to me during my summer internship and I realised I had very little time each morning. I mostly had early starts and so was rushing out the door most days. I realised pretty quickly that a way to improve my mornings was to create a daily routine that was easier than before.

Photo of daily make up routine products laid out on white backdrop. Products include Bobbi Brown foundation, Smashbox Mascara, Chanel Eyeliner and more.

To do this, I decided to reduce down the time spent on my makeup. But to do this without making me look less like my usually put together self was a diffucult journey. I chose products that I loved, and that I knew worked for my skin – but I also factored in how fast it was to use each product. For example, using a felt eyeliner pen instead of a gel and brush helps reduce time spent on my eyes.

So enough rambling, here are the products I chose for a quick and easy make up routine which I wore everyday for my summer internship.

Daily Make Up Routine Products:

First things first is your base. Foundation is always a tricky one, especially in summer as you need to avoid sweat but also use an SPF. I chose the Bobbi Brown Liquid Foundation with SP15 for these reasons. I find for my skin type, liquid foundation holds much better in the summer months than others. The Bobbi Brown foundation gives great coverage, which works all day to hide my skin’s redness and breakouts.

It never creates a caked effect, no matter how hot the summer sun can be. I find that it sits well on my skin throughout the day. There’s some loss of the product, but not enough to warrant reapplication. It’s also one of the few foundations I’ve found which matches so well to my complexion and doesn’t give me any lines, or look orange!

Next up I use the Urban Decay Naked2 Basics palette to gently shape my eyes. I use shade Stark for the full lid and then shade Frisk in my crease and outer corner. Whilst I could go without eyeshadow completely, I find that this gives a natural definition to my eyes and the centre of my face.

Another reason is that eyeliner can often transfer and I wear eyeliner everyday. Instead of getting that black line near my crease, using these shadows helps reduce transfer completely. So as this is also practical, it helps using neutral tones so that it’s subtle enough to be unoticeable if I go wrong in the morning rush!

After eyeshadow I will fill in and line my faint ginger eyebrows with Benefit Browzings. I use my own angled bursh which has more control over the tiny brushes in the palette, and so also makes this process much faster for a daily makeup routine. This palette is super handy to carry around and the product really does last all day.

This gel and powder is a pretty similar process to using ABH’s dipbrow pomade too. I can sometimes swap between the two products, but at the moment my eyebrows are also tinted brown – so ABH is out the window as I have it it in Auburn. However, this palette can give a more natural and less defined look due to the powder.

As I’ve already said, I always wear eyeliner on a daily basis. I honestly don’t know what I would do without an eyeliner flick gracing my eyes everyday. So for the daily routine I use this Chanel Eyeliner.

The Chanel Eyeliner is a felt tip liner that is super quick and simple to use. It’s quick a thick eyeliner if needed and more pressure is applied, but fine lines can also be drawn. The product lasts all day without smudging, although sometimes transfers if eyeshadow is not use correctly. I don’t believe it’s marketed as waterproof, but the typical English weather never seems to mess it up!

To give myself a little pop of colour I depend on Benefit’s Coralista blusher as I find the coral tone fits my skintone well. The finished product looks very natural and not too pink which I love for my daily make up routine. I’ve not been using contour or highlighter whilst using this routine so blush is really a must to make my face look less flat and dull.

Very occasionally if I think I need it, for example if my lips have gotten foundation on them or I just don’t look awake enough, I will pop on either MAC Velvet Teddy or MAC Shanghai Spice to bring a bit more colour into the look.

The last step in my daily make up routine is the ensure my eyelashes are long. I use an eyelash curler and then apply Smashbox’s Eye Brightening Mascara which I find is amazingly good at making my eyelashes look longer without having clumps. I’ve used this Mascara for a while now and use it most everyday!

Overall this daily make up routine can take me between 10 and 15 minutes every morning. (Often depending on how awake I am too!). This lasts me all day and I very rarely need to reapply any products. The only reapplication would be lipstick and I barely even wear that when using the above.

Finding a morning routine that worked for me, whilst still allowing me to feel comfortable was so helpful. It means I have a bit of extra time every morning to sit down and have breakfast and a coffee, plus I don’t need to worry about running into work.
