With Illamasqua holding yet more sales I knew that I had to pick something new up. I decided to go for something completely different and get Freak Eau de Parfum. I’ve been using the same perfume since before I even started my blog and realised that I needed to try something a bit new. And new and unique is exactly what I got.
Top Notes
Black Davana, Opium Flower and Belladonna.
Heart Notes
Poison Hemlock, Datura and Queen of the Night blossom.
Base Notes
Aromas of Frankincense, Oud and Myrrh.
First Thoughts
The packaging is gorgeous and unique. There’s the fact that it’s not just a normal square or round bottle, and it sits at an angle. I kept expecting it to fall over so I’ve been really wary when placing it back into my basket because of this. It’s also got a really cute snail that’s trying to travel up the side of the bottle. It’s extremely simple but makes the bottle really memorable.
I’m not the best with scents, so when I saw that it would have Frankincense and Myrrh I was fully expecting some kind of christmas smell. Obviously, that’s just me being a bit dim and it actually ended up smelling very different.
During Use
After using Gucci Guilty for so long, Freak was a big difference, but in a good way. It is much more balsamic and filled with a heavy opulence which smelt really rich on my skin. Instead of christmas it reminded me a lot more of incense and candles burning. There’s also sweet notes which are floral and more feminine than expected from such a dark and moody bottle. The smell being quite deep means that it lingers for a lot longer than I expected before it sinks into the skin.
After Use
It lasts the whole day which is great. You don’t need to reapply throughout the day, which is good as I’m sure I would end up knocking the snail off the bottle in my handbag. Although I would say it’s much more of an evening perfume because it’s so strong. A softer scent probably works better for everyday wear.
Because of the richness I personally found it made me feel much more confident when wearing it. It has a sense of feeling when applying which you don’t get with softer perfumes.
Would I Purchase Again?
Yes, I think it’s a great perfume for a night out as it’s strong and long-lasting. The sweet and bitterness of the scents also make you feel really empowered (similar to a poisonous flower).
