During my Palette Collection post I briefly wrote about the Naked Smoky Palette and decided to give a more thorough review of whether I think it’s lived up to the hype. I’m sure you remember the insane rush to get your hands on it. The blogging community was rabid and excited. And I have to admit I jumped on the hype train. I bought it impulsively and was happily obsessed when it arrive. After a few weeks however, my attention wandered away to older products or some newer ones.

First Thoughts

The Naked Smoky Palette was instantly loved due to the pretty packaging, but it was also a surprise to see how durable it was. I’ve moved multiple times, and travelled with this palette and there’s never been a crack. The brush is also of nice quality, and I love using it whereas I would normally use my own set of brushes. The Palette also comes with a small guide to help use all the shades, which is of course super helpful when you want to try different looks.

After Use

The shades are mainly glitter or shimmer based, but there are 4 matte shades which work well for everyday wear.  But I personally prefer more neatral shades, and use the Naked2 Basics palette instead as my go to everyday. This means that the Naked Smoky palette is used much more for a going out or an event look.

I find the shadows to be good quality. Highly pigmented and easily blendable which means that it’s super easy to create different looks. I mostly stay away from blue shadows (*flashbacks to being 13 and looking awful*) but these are great for night time looks because they blend so smoothly. Plus the other tones are great to soften the blues.

Would I Purchase Again?

Overall the Naked Smoky palette has good shades, good quality, it’s durable and there’s nothing I can fault with it except the price tag. I personally tend to keep it simple in the day time and that’s not what this palette is for. I bought this just before starting uni, so it does get quite a lot of use – but I wouldn’t be able to to justify paying for the price tag again just for a palette I use for nights out.

Does anyone else not use the Naked Smoky palette as much as they think they should? Do you prefer the other palettes from Urban Decay?

  1. I’ve been wanting to try it for ages, but like you, I’m worried I wouldn’t get much use out of it as I like a more subtle look for everyday! Abi | ramblingsofablonde.co.uk

Yeah I feel like I should use it more but I just DONT need it for daytime looks?

  2. I’ve never actually owned a Naked palette ( I know ) but I was closest to purchasing this one because I love a good smokey eye.

If you wear a smokey eye a lot then you should try it! Just be wary if you maybe dont wear glitter a lot during the day as you may not get as much use out of it as you may want for the price! x

  3. Those colors are incredibly amazing!
