Pixi Lip Balm Review | Keep Your Lips Luscious As We Go Into Warmer Months

Winter months are a dreadful time for lip moisture. Every time I leave the house I seem to return with dry and cracked lips so I knew I needed a helping hand. This is where Pixi’s Shea Butter Lip Balm came to save the day!

Main Ingredients and Their Benefits

Ethylhexyl Palmitate is an organic replacement to silicone. It is used to adjust the consistency of products as it has a dry slip feel.

Polybutene is used as a binder, epilating agent, thickener ad lubricant. It is naturally tacky and is used as an adhesive.

Ozokerite is a paraffin wax which has a higher melting point than most petroleum waxes. Ozokerite waxes thicken the oil portion of cosmetics and personal care products, and help to prevent emulsions from separating into their oil and liquid components.

Beeswax helps create a protective barrier on the skin whilst holding in moisture and reducing dryness. Because it is anti-allergenic, it can be used for dry, itchy and sensitive skin.

Castor Seed Oil is a skin conditioning agent and emollient. It can also help increase viscosity making the product thicker whilst also making the product smell nicer.

Tocopheryl Acetate is a form of vitamin E, a natural skin-conditioning agent and antioxidant but is more stable and less acidic than pure vitamin E. It is the most readily absorbed member of the vitamin E family.

Shea Butter is naturally soothing and has moisturising properties. It contains nutrients such as Vitamin A, antioxidants such as Vitamin E and also piluphenols and phytonutrients which makes it anti-inflammatory.

First Thoughts

I got this as a free gift when I got my Pixi Glow Tonic. After hearing so many good things about Pixi I was really excited to see how both products worked.

I hadn’t really heard much about this product in particular, but because the brand is so hyped up I did think it would be a great moisturiser for my lips.

During Use

As it’s a stick it’s extremely easy and efficient to use. But I didn’t quite realise how strong the colour would be. I think colour-wise this could pass more as a lipstick than a balm.

After Use

Although it initially makes my lips feel softer, I don’t think it works as well as old favourites like Carmex and Vaseline. After about 15-20 minutes the colour has lasted, but my lips feel ‘tacky’ rather than moisturised.

I do love that it’s a stick and not a tub, but it just wasn’t what I needed.

Would I Purchase Again?

Probably not. I could get balms that are much more moisturising for a lot less. I could also get a lipstick that’s similar in price but with fuller colour. This product kind of wants to be both, but doesn’t quite live up to either.
