A while ago now I purchased an Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipstick in the shade Stark Naked. However, due to moving multiple times over the summer I misplaced the lipstick before I even got to try it. So I have only just re-found it again. Once I did find it, I fell in love with it straight away! It’s a perfect nude lipstick for my skintone, which is often hard to find because I have quite pale skin.
I chose the shade Stark Naked because I needed a nude lipstick. At the time I’d bought quite a few that were just a bit too dark, like Velvet Teddy and others that were a bit too pale, like Myth. Another reason why I chose it was because it low-key reminded me of Game of Thrones. This was well before inspired makeup had came out. Yes I know that maybe that is not the best or most relevant reason, but I don’t have any self control.
I would like to point out that whilst the colour does apply extremely well, it is a bit paler than what the lipstick looks like within the packaging. In the tube the shade looks slightly darker than a nude (which did worry me when I first opened it!). However the colour is slightly lightened on application to create the perfect nude lip.
Currently my lips are currently insanely dry (I blame the stress…). Luckily, the Matte Revolution Lipstick does not dry them out even more. This is fantastic as it means no worrying about overdrying if I want to wear lipstick for a specific event. Plus, dryness is usually a worry and a very common problem with many matte shades.
Despite the worry, the Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipsticks are packed with ingredients to specifically help nourish the lips. With avocado, olive and babassu oils as well as shea butter for long-wear moisturisation, it really helps you feel good about wearing this lipstick. It also contains vitamin C and vitamin E which provide antioxidants, and ensuring your lips look healthy too.
A common benefit for the Urban Decay’s Matte Revolution range is that the formula is thick and pigmented during application. This is due to UD’s own proprietary Pigment Infusion System which creates the creamy texture and has ‘superior colour dispersion’. This is shown in the Stark Naked shade as well, and application is smooth in texture. The shade is immediately noticeable on first application, with little reason, or need should I say, to build it up on your lips for fuller coverage.
Alongside the thick formula helping the application of the lipstick, it also helps it last through most of the day. As it’s a nude lipstick, I’ve been wearing it as part of my day-to-day makeup looks, and I’ve found that it lasts a good amount of time. You can eat and drink (carefully) without too much transfer of the colour. It’s also easily re-applicable if you do rub too much away during your lunch break. The formula allows you to build the colour back up without it looking too much, or the formula caking together.
Whilst it is a matte formula, and definitely does not shimmer or shine like other lipsticks, it’s not completely matte. And this is just in comparison to other similar lipsticks owned like the Nyx Lip Lingerie Liquid Lipsticks line.
Another good thing about Urban Decay’s lipsticks in general (or at least of the ones that I have personally tried!) is that they don’t have a fragrance, which suggests that they won’t have any strong effect on sensitive skin. Fortunately, this was the case for me and I didn’t see an adverse side effects from using the lipstick, plus like I mentioned before it also doesn’t dry out your lips.
Overall I find that the Matte Revolution Lipstick in Stark Naked is a great addition to my everyday makeup bag. It’s a great matte nude shade without being too dry and it’s long-lasting wear. Plus, comparing it to the other ‘nude’ shades that I had purchased at the time, this is the one that I’ve consistently gone back to and used.
Unfortunately after looking around online, this lipstick seems to be discontinued. Although Urban Decay do have the same shade, Stark Naked, available in the Comfort Matte Vice Lipstick formula. This new formula is extremely similar and has most of the same ingredients, as you can see below. So I would assume that UD has used this as the next generation and it’s actually been improved.

I’ve been meaning to try Urban Decay’s lipstick after loving the Naked palettes! Thank you for the detailed review😃
I’ve heard good things about Urban Decay makeup, but never tried their lipsticks only the eyeshadow palettes. Thank you for this review, I think I’ll look out for a matte lipstick next time I’m shopping.
I’ve tried multiple UD products and find that their quality is pretty consistent for all of them!
